Brian starts off by discussing Metal Blade’s 40th anniversary in 2022 and how his love for heavy metal lead to an unplanned career in the music thats lasted over four decades. Slagel talks about the fanzine days in the early 80’s where he and Bob Nalbandian simultaneously created their own publications The New Heavy Metal Revue & The Headbanger. Brian talks about meeting Nalbandian at an Armored Saint and what he contributed to the heavy metal community and scene over the years. Slagel also talks about the unconventional signing of The Goo Goo Dolls in the late 80’s, surviving the 90’s when metal’s popularity was at its all-time lowest, how Metal Blade were able to thrive when technology took over the music business in the early 2000’s and more.
